2021 Graduate Experience – Andrew

The difference between University and Full-Time employment was a shock to the system for me

Working in an office was a new environment for me, as my prior jobs have mostly been in the hospitality industry. It was difficult at first learning all the job requirements and having to adjust to working life. I was concerned it would have felt like a sink or swim moment, but at SIP, the help you receive is above and beyond.

Having a mentor to guide you through the transition from University student to Graduate Accountant is very valuable. I feel as though the mentor’s help you fulfill your true potential.

To this day, I still value my mentor and buddy.

The Impact of Culture

The culture at Slomoi Immerman Partners is second to none. It is not just seen in the buddy and mentor program, but in the soul of the firm. SIP preaches family office and they have proven that to both their clients and employees.

I had a brief moment last year where I was quite ill and the amount of support and compassion that I received from the firm was amazing. The immediate reaction was “take your time and get better. Is there anything we can do for you?”. It is this kind of support that made it extremely easy to feel apart of the SIP family.

Adjusting to WFH Life

Being a graduate in a work from home environment definitely has its challenges. Normally, we would be working side by side with our buddies and mentors, but we had to quickly adapt to Teams and Zoom calls. My buddy was always happy to take my calls no matter how many questions I asked that felt silly or small.

The Social Club also managed to overcome the struggles with lockdowns and social engagement. They organised fun events over zoom, from Bingo Night to Trivia to Mini Games.

SIP is a vibrant place with lots of energy, that encourages employees to be themselves. You don’t just turn up each day because it’s your job, but because you genuinely want to be apart of the fun and inclusive environment they have created.
